I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to visit France last year, and it was the trip of a lifetime. I spent most of my time in Paris and the surrounding area, but also visited Toulouse, which was a beautiful town. I had an exchange student live with me for a while several years past, and I was able to meet him in France (that’s why I visited Toulouse). The culture was fascinating, the food was superb, and the weather cooperated with my travel plans for the duration of the trip!  I was even able to visit the Louvre and see the works of all the famous artists of the Renaissance period!

I had my FujiFilm FinePix digital camera with me the whole trip, and I later compiled the pictures I took into an album. I missed my family while I was in France, but they were glad I had taken lots of pictures of my trip. In fact, the pictures I took with my Fuji fine pix became so popular that my parents showed the album to friends of theirs I didn’t even know!

Contrary to popular belief, even the routines and household objects associated with everyday life can provide excellent photographic fodder. It’s true that travel photos and dynamic nature shots draw most of the accolades, but there’s an art to capturing “slices of life” as well. For example, you can utilize regular point and shoot cameras to collect photographic evidence of a delightful family get-together.

Pictures of food appeal to many senses at once, and there are a number of tricks you can use to make the photographs just as palatable as the real thing. Ty locking the focus on one part of the dish – maybe a turkey leg at Thanksgiving – and allow the background imagery to blur. The more artistic the shot, the more you’ll savor the resulting photograph. You should also include some elements of the table setting and décor into your images.

Give Your Photos a Narrative Arc

Photographs are special in that they can tell a story which would be inexpressible through words. Complex emotions and fleeting moments of grandeur are captured and articulated with eloquence. Just like a great novel or movie, a series of photographs should possess a narrative arc that the viewer can follow from one image to the next. Keep that in mind when you’re taking vacation snapshots with your Pentax Optio digital camera.

There’s no need to force it. Take some time to find a suitable subject for your photographs – maybe a beautiful beach or an awe-inspiring piece of architecture. Then take pictures of your approach to the location, a few detailed snapshots, some photos from unexpected angles and finally a few pictures for the road as you depart. If desired, you can then arrange them chronologically in a photo album.
