The Nikon D90 SLR Digital Camera, with its 12.3-megapixel DX-format CCD, 3″ High resolution LCD display, Scene Recognition System, Picture Control, Active D-Lighting, and one-button Live View, provides photo enthusiasts with the image quality and performance they need to pursue their own vision while still being intuitive enough for use as an everyday camera. Nikon’s EXPEED image processing engine delivers outstanding images featuring fine details, smooth tones, rich colors and low noise across a wide ISO sensitivity range. The D-Movie mode records 720p HD movie clips. Nikon’s Scene Recognition System advances precision in auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance in diverse shooting situations. The Live View mode allows for users to frame their images on the large 3″ high resolution color LCD – providing for easy image framing, even when shooting at odd angles.
The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm VR lens features built-in Vibration Reduction II system providing equivalent shutter speeds 3 steps faster than standard lenses. It also has one ED glass element and one aspherical lens element, optimized for use with DX-format SLRs. The VR system & ED glass allow you to make highly-resolved, crisp images with minimal chromatic aberration. Lastly, the lens’ ultra-compact Silent Wave Motor allows for blazingly quick, silent autofocus.

The 12.1-megapixel Lumix DMC-FS15 features a 29mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with a 5x optical zoom. Panasonic has enhanced the Intelligent Auto Mode (iA) on the DMC-FS15 from the previous FS models to now include AF tracking and Intelligent Exposure functions in addition to Mega O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector and Face Detection. AF Tracking enables the user to “lock” the focus onto a moving subject. The camera then automatically tracks the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without the need to hold the shutter button halfway down. Additionally, Intelligent Exposure helps capture natural-looking images by suppressing blocked shadows and blown highlights. It continually monitors the light source in the shooting environment and automatically activates the backlight compensation function if it detects the light source is behind the subject.
Other features of the FS15 include a Venus Engine IV processor, which enables an advanced processing system and quick response times. An intelligent LCD screen detects light conditions and automatically adjusts the brightness levels for viewing in sunlight and helps to preserve battery life. The new Photo Frame mode lets the user put attractive borders around photos, so when printed, they look like postcards in picture frames. Also, the new My Scene setting lets the user assign their most frequently used Scene modes to the setting, and with a simple switch, access that scene instantly. The FS-Series is also capable of recording WVGA (848 x 480) motion pictures at 30 frames per second in 16:9 wide-screen format, as well as standard VGA (640 x 480) format.

The camera also has several settings such as aperture or Shutter priority modes to assist with evenly regulating exposure making it easy to use for 1st timers. After reading the manual every picture i took came out in amazing quality. The tilt screen makes taking pictures at impossible angles easy. The 24 x zoom lets you take close ups from impossible lengths.
Or get out there and take some pictures. Winter photos can be really dramatic with the white of the snow and the color contrast. If you have a DSLR you can play with the settings and come up with some real good results. The cameras meter will get you close and than just move the f-stop up or down (higher or lower numbers). Or play with the shutter speed ( same way as before). Its called bracketing.
