Whether you are shopping for a Sony Cybershot, Nikon or any other type of camera, the quality of the picture is measured by the megapixel resolution of the camera. In simple terms, a pixel is the smallest bit if information with which a picture is taken, and an image is comprised of millions of these tiny bits which create shapes, colors, and shades. A megapixel represents 1 million pixels, thus an 8 megapixel camera would be comprised of 8 million pixels. In general, a camera with 8 megapixels is one of the highest resolution cameras on the market today. A camera with even 4 megapixels can still produce an image of such high quality that it can scarcely be determined as different from an 8 megapixel picture to the human eye.
Eventually digital camera technology will advance to the point where it will no longer be necessary to advance the amount of megapixels because it will be unnecessary to have an image where you can examine individual pores on a person’s face.
If you’re a professional photographer, buying a new camera is probably a fun endeavor. After all, you know exactly what you’re looking for and you know exactly what each camera feature does. But if you’re a novice or a non-professional camera user, buying a new camera can be far from fun. In fact, the entire process can be confusing and overwhelming. With features and camera names full of unexplained acronyms, searching the aisles at your local electronics store can feel like playing a very expensive guessing game.
But you can take out some of the mystery by doing your research online. Search around for highly rated cameras online, and you’re sure to come up with a variety of high performing cameras of all shapes and sizes. Whether you come across something advanced like the Canon a1000is or something more rudimentary, you can browse the features at your own leisure. You can also perform any independent research you need on features that might be confusing.

I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to visit France last year, and it was the trip of a lifetime. I spent most of my time in Paris and the surrounding area, but also visited Toulouse, which was a beautiful town. I had an exchange student live with me for a while several years past, and I was able to meet him in France (that’s why I visited Toulouse). The culture was fascinating, the food was superb, and the weather cooperated with my travel plans for the duration of the trip! I was even able to visit the Louvre and see the works of all the famous artists of the Renaissance period!
I had my FujiFilm FinePix digital camera with me the whole trip, and I later compiled the pictures I took into an album. I missed my family while I was in France, but they were glad I had taken lots of pictures of my trip. In fact, the pictures I took with my Fuji fine pix became so popular that my parents showed the album to friends of theirs I didn’t even know!

The 12.1-megapixel Lumix DMC-FS15 features a 29mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with a 5x optical zoom. Panasonic has enhanced the Intelligent Auto Mode (iA) on the DMC-FS15 from the previous FS models to now include AF tracking and Intelligent Exposure functions in addition to Mega O.I.S., Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector and Face Detection. AF Tracking enables the user to “lock” the focus onto a moving subject. The camera then automatically tracks the subject as it moves, keeping it in focus without the need to hold the shutter button halfway down. Additionally, Intelligent Exposure helps capture natural-looking images by suppressing blocked shadows and blown highlights. It continually monitors the light source in the shooting environment and automatically activates the backlight compensation function if it detects the light source is behind the subject.
Other features of the FS15 include a Venus Engine IV processor, which enables an advanced processing system and quick response times. An intelligent LCD screen detects light conditions and automatically adjusts the brightness levels for viewing in sunlight and helps to preserve battery life. The new Photo Frame mode lets the user put attractive borders around photos, so when printed, they look like postcards in picture frames. Also, the new My Scene setting lets the user assign their most frequently used Scene modes to the setting, and with a simple switch, access that scene instantly. The FS-Series is also capable of recording WVGA (848 x 480) motion pictures at 30 frames per second in 16:9 wide-screen format, as well as standard VGA (640 x 480) format.
